Dimensional Files for Fixed Income ETF Share Classes
Dimensional Fund Advisors, one of the largest issuers of active exchange-traded funds (ETFs) globally, today announced that it has filed to list five ETF share classes of the firm’s systematic fixed income strategies:
- Five-Year Global Fixed Income Portfolio (ETF Ticker: DFGB)
- Intermediate Government Fixed Income Portfolio (ETF Ticker: DFGV)
- Municipal Real Return Portfolio (ETF Ticker: DFMR)
- Short-Duration Real Return Portfolio (ETF Ticker: DFSR)
- Short-Term Municipal Bond Portfolio (ETF Ticker: DFSM)
Dimensional’s fixed income investment solutions are designed to be transparent, diversified, and low-cost, which are attributes the firm believes the ETF share class structure is well suited for. Once listed, the filed ETF share classes would broaden Dimensional’s fixed income ETF lineup by providing ETF access to strategies that currently do not have corresponding standalone ETFs.
Dimensional has been a strong advocate for the investor benefits of ETF share classes within funds, which can lower costs, enhance tax efficiency, enable more efficient rebalancing, and simplify choice.
Gerard O’Reilly, Co-CEO and Co-CIO, said, “We are committed to broadening access to ETF share classes and delivering the cost savings, economies of scale, and tax efficiency this structure can offer investors. We believe this reflects a more modern model for investing—one that puts the investment proposition first and the vehicle second.”
Dimensional has made significant progress this year in expanding the benefits of ETF share classes to more investors. Last month, the firm announced it intends to convert eight of its standalone US equity ETFs into ETF share classes of the firm’s funds with similar investment strategies. The fund mergers bring together approximately $250 billion in assets—$100 billion in ETFs and $150 billion in mutual funds—into funds that will offer both mutual fund and ETF share classes. The firm has listed two ETF share classes and has several ETF share classes filed that it expects to list before the end of the year.
